A simple crossroad, 400 kilometers from Panama City, becomes the battlefield between an indigenous people of 150.000 persons and the project of one of the world’s biggest open mines.
"El Cruce" is called the point where a small road from the land of the indigenous people Ngöbe Bugle meets Pan-americana, vital economical artery for the country and the only road that
unites Panama to the rest of Central America. The indigenous land is tempting Korean, Canadian and Chilean companies, being the second world reserve of copper.
After several attempts at dialogue with the government, indigenous people, walking for days, reach "El Cruce" to block the Pan-americana highway against
the project wanted by the international corporations and by the Panamanian government.
In the last 32 hours of the demonstration, men, women and children remain stuck in their cars without food or water.
The road becomes a weapon that seems to transform itself to a real tragedy and a defeat of the government.
The film “EL CRUCE” follows all these days of fight and enters in the reality of the indigenous culture with one of the leader who wants to understand the visions of their people.
"El Cruce" is where two opposing visions of the world, two cultures, two ways of perceiving life and nature collide.
